Montemezzo – 6 May 2023 from 18:00
The Pro Loco di Montemezzo is organizing an event to discover the ancient village of Burano. The event consists of a food and wine itinerary between pulen (the alleys) and linvolt (the cellars) of the characteristic historical center of the village.
The itinerary is divided into 7 stages.
The FIRST STOP will be the meeting point at the Church Square. This is where visitor registration will take place. They will be given the badge with indications of the stages of the food and wine itinerary and a welcome aperitif will be served.
Near the first stage you can visit the church of San Martino with its stupendous frescoes dating back to the 15th century.
The SECOND STOP will be reached after covering a stretch of the ancient mule track which from Gera Lario goes up Mount Berlinghera.
During the ascent it will be possible to stop near the ancient votice chapel, with its ancient frescoes, and admire the enchanting panorama.
Next, on the left of the section to be covered, visitors will be able to notice the large cup-shaped boulder found in the early 1900s. At this boulder, the men of the Neolithic period made rounded hollows, probably to use them during funeral or magical rites. According to the historians Giovio and Buzzetti, sacrifices were made to the gods at the boulder.
At the stage, where a selection of cured meats and cold cuts will be served, you can also take the opportunity to take a look into one of the many characteristic cellars scattered around the village, evidence of rural life in the past.
With the THIRD STOP you discover a suggestive stretch of the village, characterized by three votive frescoes. A selection of cheeses will be offered to visitors on site.
First of the three frescoes – Crucifixion of Christ – Commissioned by the Tremari Brothers – 1871
Second of the three frescoes – Madonna of the Rosary with the Child between St. Joseph and St. Vincent Ferreri – Commissioned by Giuseppe Tognola, – 8 October 1766
Third fresco – Madonna standing with the Child between Saint Joseph and Saint Bernardino – Commissioned by Bernardino Caraccio – 1870
You will then cover another short stretch, heading to the FOURTH STOP.
Along the way for the stage, it will be possible to make a brief stop to visit another characteristic point of the village The cellar of one of the oldest houses in the village dating back to 1597.
The fourth stage provides for the participants the opportunity to taste a typical dish of the lake, the soused trout, also accompanied in this case by an excellent glass of white wine.
Just near the stop, located at the western end of the village, there is another fountain testifying to the abundance of water enjoyed by the village.
The position also offers a splendid Lake view.
The FIFTH STOP will be reached by moving along a stretch paved with pebbles and leading to the top of the village of Burano from where the street of the same name starts. The stop, accompanied by live music, takes place in a panoramic square where another typical dish will be served, polenta and sausage, obviously accompanied by a glass of local red wine.
Panoramic view from the small square located at the northern end of the village of Burano.
A final stretch of road along Via Burano, between stone houses and ancient porticoes, leads to the main square of the ancient village where we find the last two stops of the route in the presence, here too, of music.
The SIXTH STOP includes the tasting of another typical dish of the upper Lario, spoon gnocchi with potatoes. Also on this occasion the wine will not fail, a special red will accompany the dish.
The Piazza del Borgo, where the stop is held, has for years represented the heart of the Borgo guarded by the walls of the picturesque pastel-coloured houses.
To close the evening the SEVENTH STOP which will delight the palate of those present with a dessert made with chestnut flour, typical of the area, and a last glass of wine.
n the square you have the opportunity to admire another fresco – Crucifixion of Christ with the Madonna, Mary Magdalene and St. John at his feet – commissioned by the spouses Giovanni and Domenica Badel – 1894
Immediately near the square, it will be possible to visit two other cellars, able to tell the simple life of the area in the past years … and in many cases still today.
